Waterford FC has announced the appointment of Darren Murray as their new Academy Director. Murray is a vastly experienced coach, holding a UEFA Pro License. His impending announcement has been confirmed by the Harps Academy committee. He owns and runs the Football Academy of Ireland, and coached the Irish boys U15 and U16 sides during his 18-year spell as an FAI Development Officer. Murray also coached the Irish girls U17 and U19 teams. He was awarded the KNVB International Coaching Award by the Holland FA, and has also picked up a Youth Coaching award from the English FA in a decorated career to date. His role at Finn Harps is a full-time position, and will be funded by the Irish Sports Council. The position was previously occupied by former Finn Harps first team manager Kevin McHugh on a part-time basis. McHugh left the role as senior manager in July. McHugh's position within the Harps academy appears up in the air following his departure as manager, despite assurances from Chairman Ian Harkin that the former Harps striker would remain on in some capacity. Waterford FC is currently 9th in the Premier Division, with 25 points from 26 games, and a goal difference of -13. They are 26 points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers. Their recent form has been 3W-2D-0L, with a 2-game winning run. Their next fixture is against Bohemians at home on August 9th.
